Who doesn’t love the magic of tide pools? For a few hours, especially at extra low tides, a hidden world is revealed. Life of all kinds — crabs, star fish, oysters, barnacles, tiny fish, anemones and so many more. This vividly colored and sometime very active (watch out for crabs!) sea life is infinitely fascinating, and infinitely worth photographing. These cyanotypes are made from photographs of low tides primarily in Oregon and Washington, but also from the high Arctic of Svalbard where I was surprised to find lion’s mane jellies in plentiful supply.
